Lines of inquiry:
DEBATES: WHO HAS A HARDER TIME GROWING UP - BOYS OR GIRLS?
We wrapped up our unit with a summative assessment: debates.
Several weeks preceding the summative assessment we honed our communication skills through many rounds of debates on various topics. Who is better at math _ girls or boys, advancement in medicine/medical technology has been a good thing, domesticating animals is good...
Needless to say, our 5SB boys and girls are a passionate lot and this was evident during the fierce debates. Some rounds were won by boys, some by girls. For the summative we worked in groups of three. Three boys Vs three girls. Lots of learning took place from researching and listening!!!
Some of the arguments offered...
GIRLS: when puberty is over for boys it is ALL over and done with but even when girls' puberty is over we STILL have to get periods every month
It's also easier for boys because girls frequently get mood swings, and boys rarely get them, and when girls get them, they switch moods really quickly and it'll be really annoying
Most girls want to look like someone else and get depression.
Girls grow tall sooner and quickly grow out of best clothes
