Now that we had our interest areas out there on display, it was time to wonder about the challenges that arise from these topics....

Blog Post by Sherrisa:
I wanted to be student council because I would like to help others when they are feeling down or lonely.I will always try my best to help people and solve problems that we are all facing. Right before the student council was announced, I felt very nervous. When it was announced that the student council was me and Heegyu, I was very happy but felt bad for the people that didn't get chosen. But I am very proud of myself being able to become student council without being really prepared. But I think that everyone did a good job and a great speech. Thank You!
Blog post by Preritt:
On January 21 2015 I was elected to be a substitute for our grade 5.1 at the Student Council. That means that I will go to any student council meeting if any of the student council members is absent. I think I will do pretty good on the student council.

A business is very hard to run. Have you tried running a business? Well, in our school we had a special event today called Market Day. The G5s which is us, have prepared different kinds of businesses for the others (K1-G4).
Our business’s game is called Burst’em All. Seunghyun and Preritt are my partners. We had a profit of $97.25!
What I could do differently next time is that not spend 54 dollars in the cost. We should have just made the darts on our own. We also could have increased our price when there was a line of customers waiting to play our game so we can earn more money.
Today I felt happy and a little bit nervous because this is my first time selling anything. My my business’ name is Mingki. And my partner was Mingyu. We had a game where you throw a ball into a cup.
And we spent $5 FOR 10 CUPS AND CANDY.AND WE GOT $44 SO FINALLY WE GOT 44-5=$39!
The Market day is a day when grade 5 do business to earn money and donate it to Kiva. Today we had our market day. Before we started the business I felt really excited because I could not wait to see how many people wanted to buy our things.
The name of my business was JIA. It stands for Jeewoo, Irdina and Allisya. We spend $14 for the candies and we manage to earn $93.60 and our profit is $76.60. We sold candies and rainbow loom bracelets that we made ourselves.
I was a little nervous at first because we might not earn enough money to pay our parents back. I felt great that we earned a lot of money. We earned $183.30! But because we spent a lot of money as an investment, our profit was $37.00, so it didn’t turn out so well.
I learned that you shouldn’t spend too much money to buy things and just use with what you already have.
I learnt that we have to move faster if you are in a real business, and you have to be kind to the customers. For example you always have to say “Hello!” to the customers. I also learnt that we have to be ethical in a real business.
The most difficult part was trying not to rest because I was so exhausted because of the bright sun but I couldn’t let my friends to work by themselves.
Our business was successful because when our demand was high, we changed our price higher and when our demand was low, we lowered the price.
In total, we have earned about 161 dollars and our cost was 55 dollars; so our profit was about 97 dollars!
I learned that making and doing business has a lot of procedure and hard work. It was great experience for me.
Next if we have another Market Day, I might raise the price(it wasn’t enough) when our demand was high so that we can earn more money and also we could make our props likes darts so that we don’t have to spend much money.
I had a fun and amazing yet exhausting day today because today we had Market day
I learned that getting customers are not really easy and we had to advertise them to make them play this game. I also needed to make some things cheap.
I LEARNT To not to argue if it was someone’s fault and advertise more customers so that we can earn more money.
Before the market day, I was kind of excited but when the market day started, I felt bored because no customer came (except for Mrs. Batlaw). I thought many customers would come but only few people came. After the Market day, I felt tired of all the work. I wanted to rest.
I think we were very successful because we had a long line. People liked our game so much and thats why we made our price higher. Our cost was $55, the earnings were $161 and the profits were $97. Our teamwork was very good and we got things ready on time
The thing I learned was that sometimes it is hard for you get things done but if you work as a team you can do it.
I think I can work on advertising more.
GAKUTO reviews article on Mac Donald's in Japan where a human tooth was found in the food.
"I chose this article because I never thought there would be a tooth and plastic in the food in Japan.I was eating Mac Donald's in Japan so was a bit worried. I think Mac Donald's should be more careful and I also heard that in some country, someone put a chicken nugget that dropped on the ground.
KEVIN reviews a news article on the shooting of a 12 year old boy in Cleveland, USA.
"I chose this article because I thought it was VERY unfair that the police just shot the kid. He should have told the kid to put his gun down again. I learned that you should never play with fake things that looked dangerous outside when people don’t know it."
We said good bye to Lixiang and Krishna, and welcomed Karl to grade 5.1!
