MCKAYLA's BLOGPOST: This week I most enjoyed doing a presentation with David, Keitaro, Aroha, in front of Mr. Pinchbeck. We were sharing information about the tree cutting at the front of our school.
We told Mr. Pinchbeck how we took action after National Parks Board (N’Parks) cut down the first tree outside our school on Paterson Road.
We found their e-mail address on their website and messaged them. We asked why they cut down the tree. They said that the tree they cut had a Fusarium wilt disease, that affects Angsana Trees. They cut another few trees down, and we asked them why, but they haven’t responded yet. Keitaro took photos of the trees that were cut.
We told Mr. Pinchbeck that the class was working on something called the Earth Hour Project. An Earth Hour is when the school goes and buys seeds and plants it around the school. We did some research into the kinds of trees found in Singapore and the one that would be most suited for our school.
The trees that we suggested to plant are the Saga Seed Tree, and/or the Rain Tree.
We showed Mr. Pinchbeck the spot where we would like to plant one or two trees. He said he would think about it… We wonder if the will say yes!!
PS: GONG XI FA CAI! HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR TO ALL! Below is a proposal for where we want to plant the tree
This week we also inquired into different forms of poetry and literary devices such as similes, alliterations....and wrote our own poems.
View life from the lens of a 10 year old, and it will bring much humour and joy. That sums up my experience with my grade 5 students at ISS.
