Our passions are ‘literacy’. We had to research some informations about ‘literacy’. The questions we had were ‘How reading has positive impacts on children?’, ‘How writing has positive impacts on children?’, ‘Why do many people like/dislike literacy?, ‘What is our responsibility for literacy’?, ‘Why is technology bad?’ ‘When did Ancient people start to write?’. What we had to do is research those questions we were curious about, and we had to think about workshop for exhibition, and we had to request Ms. Christine, our mentor to have a meeting.
Jiyou was communicator because he speaked out. He was a thinker because he thought of workshop-ideas/workshop-stations. He was also an inquirer because he inquired about his questions about literacy. His curiosity of literacy made questions for him to research. His commitment of his work was enormous. He was enthusiastic to literacy.
Grace was reflective, because she was checking over her Cornell Notes to check the informations are enough and see if there are any mistakes that she made. She was balanced when she stayed on topic, by finding out the informations which are connected with her topic. She was also enthusiastic, because she put a lot of effort when she worked on her Cornell Notes even it took quite a long time. She showed commitment by working my assignments, which are Cornell Notes and the blogs.
Tomo used my communication skill to tell the audience the things such as instruction, how to do and answering the questions. But I had to tell my group with louder voice. Also, I had to tell the instructions clearly. Sometimes, in the word finding, though, we meant “Extra word”, but the audience thought they had to find the words “Extra”. I also used my inquiring skill when I and my group-mate had to come up with some ideas. We had to think about what will the order be, and what to do. We also had to do our workshop with getting the audiences involved, so I had to think about it, too. I was also balanced when I focus on my work.
We were researching about our questions that are all relevant to literacy. We divided them by using the ‘key concepts’. We had 6 questions. While researching, we did not communicate that much. We researched a lot.
We also had mentor meeting at room 14. We usually had meetings on Monday period 6 (1:35 PM) and Friday 8:30 PM. We discussed about what we were doing, some actions that we are going to take, survey questions and some works for workshop.
In workshop, we decided to do this as steps:
In the workshop, we created three stations. The first one was for creating the title for images and writing the words that rhyme with the title. The second station was for matching the words and the definitions that go together. The third station was for finding the word among bunch of letters. We also had one more games to entertain the audience. One of them was "Jeopardy". If the audience was remembering the words which are important, they can answer the questions. If they said the correct answer, they can get point. Grace came up with this idea, and we decided what to do the other.

Jiyou felt totally exhausting after the exhibition. He was indeed really tired. He felt totally great when exhibition was all over. Grace felt quite nice after the exhibition, because she thought she did very enthusiastic during the workshop. Tomo felt quite risk-taking. I and my group-mate had to make the blog, and it must be interesting. So we had to collect some info, and summarizing process was a little difficult.
We learned hip hop dance from dance group, we learned about healthy and unhealthy foods from food group, we learned about eco design by design group, and we learned difference about rock music and pop music from music group.
We think our group did well at using Research Skills, Communication skills, and Self-Management Skills. We did well at Researching Skill when looking into our key concept questions. We also collected, recorded and organized our data findings into reports and cornell notes. We had made a basic plan with each other, every time we started to research. We think we used Communication Skills because we sharing ideas. We are doing good group cooperation and listening each other. We also making connections. We think we used lots of Self-management Skills because we were all focusing on the task and complete and time and went ahead. We are organized work and set up safety.
We were passionate about the environment and taking care of it. Our goal was to spread awareness on Marine Life pollution because it is one of the biggest problems in our Earth. We took action by writing letters to Gastro Guys to persuade them to use biodegradable and reusable cutlery instead of serving plastic ones. Then we wrote Cold Storage to persuade them to charge for plastic bags. We had a good reply from each of them. Gastro Guys replied saying they also do not want to use plastic. But the only reason that they use plastic was so it is easy to bring or move food to the school. Also because they did not want food to get soggy with biodegradable containers. Cold Storage replied telling us that they do a lot already like getting the cashiers to ask customers if they have reusable bags, and they also said they are happy if we reply or have anything else to add.
Our mentor was Ms. Kate and she helped us with a lot of things. In our group meetings, we brainstormed workshop ideas together. We looked into cornell notes, questions and action plans to see what we could change or improve in them. Ms. Kate also helped us find good materials for the workshop. For example she gave us the plastic we needed for the windows. Later on leading up to the exhibition, she helped us create a structure for the workshop and what would happen there. She guided us on to the right track so we could continue planning the workshop.
Our workshop idea was to make people experience what being around plastic is like when coming into our workshop. That would start our presentation with a huge impact with a help poster they look at. Then we would bring them to 4 stations. Plastic pollution, Oil spills, Chemicals, and Global warming, which has activities and cool experiences. Even other things like experiments and role plays that our audience needed to observe. At the end, after we knew they were aware of marine life issues, we showed them actions and solutions to these problems. There were videos and slideshows that made people leave willing to take action. We knew we had made an impact on people and inspired them to help marine life when we looked at the feedback wall.
We feel that each station went well in some way. We knew that our audience enjoyed the oil cleanup activity, sunscreen experiment and chemicals game, and global warming storm. The feedback wall talked a lot about these things and how people learnt from it. Something that we found challenging was when we had some problems digitally like the music and connections with the internet and projector. It was harder to present to the middle schoolers because some did not listen and participate.
We started our exhibition as just the travel group , we first started making questions using our research skills and asking questions we turned into the eco-travel group!! After that we started choosing what questions we were going to use and who was doing those questions.Then it is research time and we started our thinking skills and started learning new things , each of us had at least two questions to research on. We was knowledgeable, thinker and open - minded and also, we used curiosity,
We started emailing our mentor and having meetings with her. Our mentor, Mrs.Batlaw helped us a lot in this process and gave us a lot of ideas to research and for our workshops. Once we finished our questions we started deciding on our action and making our action plan. We did a brochure and a video telling people about ecotourism and how to be a good ecotourists. Time came by and exhibition was coming fast we ,and we used our creativity to we started planning for our workshop and made our scripts. Our workshop idea was to make an airplane, have different stations and at the end make a quiz. Our workshop turned out to be really good and got our audience engaged a lot.
We think that we could improved by having our computer charged and ready before we did our workshop because one time during the workshop Vera’s computer did not work and Donggun’s computer ran out of battery so we had to and get another computer that wasted time. The most challenging part for us was when we had the k1 and k2 students which did not listen to us while we were speaking. We all feel tired and relieved that exhibition is over. During this process we learnt a lot of things about our passion and our group. We also learnt a lot from the other groups from their workshops.
Eco Design Exhibition
During the exhibition journey we’ve used lots of important skills to get to the point where we had our workshop. We have used the research skills a lot to find out all our information. We have worked very hard to find everything and become experts in eco design. We have also used the self management skill time management to keep track of our time and make sure that we get things done in time before our deadline.
Passion, goals and action
Our passion is art and design. But on second day of brainstorming we decided that only eco desain have important problems. So we were doing eco design. Our goal was to influence people to use eco design more in their daily live. And we think we reached it. Our actions was to do eco design challenge for students from G1 to G5. they needed to create stuff from the trash what they brought with them. Our second action was to send letter to the Singapore government and we ask them to make recycling in Singapore better. Unfortunately, the government has not replied to us yet.
Our mentor is Mr Reid and we have our meetings every tuesday 5th period which is after lunch and we were assessed on our Atls ( approaches to learning skills) and he helped us guide to our exhibition work. He also added some things to our work and added more exhibition questions.
Our workshop idea
Our idea for our workshop and what we did was to make the room look like a dump full of trash when people came in. That was because we let the students, teachers and parents to design something out of the trash that was on the floor. So reuse it basically. We also explained what eco design is, how it connects to Singapore and how products that aren’t eco friendly affect the environment.
During the two exhibition days we found it quite stressful. Even though it was stressful, it went well. All the students seemed to really enjoy our workshop especially the designing part. All the slides went well, the trash was enough and the students faces were happy. One of the challenging things were that we had to quickly set up, wait for the class that sometimes were late or really early, present and then quickly pack up and get to our next workshop to watch. Then that just continued on in the same process.
We felt relieved when the exhibition was over. We were happy because we do not have to present, stand for a long time, freedom! We have felt a little nervous but then more confident once we started. We have learnt and seen very good examples and ideas of workshops and games. Every workshop we went to we learned something about their topic and how they presented to different ages. Throughout the process we’ve learnt many things about eco design which we feel that we are almost experts in eco design.
We are Kseniia, Samantha, and Hasuno. We have been working on our cooking exhibition for 7 weeks and we want to share our process with you!
During this process, we used some IB learner profiles and PYP attitudes. We were Open-Minded by listening to others ideas and putting them together to make our workshop great! We also used the communicator learner profile by planning our work even over the weekend and we also helped some people in our workshop in other languages. We used a lot of creativity to make a fun and interesting workshop and presentation to Grade 2s and 3s. We also used confidence while presenting to the middle schoolers and other grades!

We began researching the questions that we chose and we researched them in the cornell note method and summarized them into reports:
The first thing we did was tuning in to our passions and finding out what they are. Than we did concentric circles - on it, it connected our passion to ourselves, our families, Iss ,Singapore and most important of all: the world. Also we wrote our top 3 interests about our passions.
Here are some of the learning profiles we used in exhibition they are: We were Being respectful because we were really kind, nice and helpful to our mentor. We use self-management: we can manage things ourselves and complete our work. Sometimes it is a bit difficult for us to work on our own. We have a little pressure.
Our goal is to make a perfect exhibition. We use the Internet to find global warming data and complete them. We ask teachers to identify problems for our exhibition and learn something new for us. Sometimes we are controversial about writing, but it makes us more integrated.
I am so be surprised when I know our mentor is Miss Tina, because I think our mentor not possible to be Miss Tina. I am not knowing her much, But after do exhibition I knew a lot about her. She is very kind and helpful.
She helped me a lot. Like: She helped me to complete Cornell notes, she helped me to complete the story, she helped me modify the script, and so on. I am very grateful Miss Tina.
On the day of the exhibition, the entire grade was unfavorable to us. Because the children from K1 to K2 do not understand the meaning of our words. The teacher said that our exhibition was too boring and the video we found was too long. It was a waste of our time. We must change our exhibition on the same day.
I think exhibition is over, because we finished the show. We do the work together, we have deep friendship. I want next times, we can do the exhibition together once again.I know many knowledge about global warming. We learned more about how to do a show. And we learned how to do team work.
Hello, our names are Sofia, Anyu & Niharika we are the music group from the Grade 5 exhibition 2018. In this blog post, we will tell you about our journey before and after our exhibition,so if you didn’t know by our title, we have been researching about music. Music is our passion. We enjoy to listen and learn about it.
Our goal was to see more musical activities among boys as most of them see music and singing as something girls enjoy, but we wanted to prove them wrong, and make them see that music is a really fun thing that many of them enjoy.
Surprisingly, many boys came to our action which we will tell you more in the next paragraph.
Our action was to make an international singing club,but mainly we also wanted to get boys to enjoy our singing club from G2〜G5. Once we had our first session, we saw a lot of boys show up. 8 boys and 26 girls came to our singing club. In singing club, we are going to teach the students good song and sing for Ms. Skirtik, but now, we chose an easy and good songs(fit with their grades), and we are teaching it. They like to sing that songs and they are enjoying our singing club.
Before Exhibition's workshop
After our work was done we had about 2 weeks before our exhibition. Our teachers told us to start thinking about our workshop. We first had an idea for a “Mindful Plane” but it ended up being to boring and to long and in the end I’m glad we didn’t choose to do it. But we did agree on 3 stations each contain facts and games for the visitors to enjoy.
But we didn’t do this all by ourselves, our mentor Mrs.Hayward helped us during our process in several ways. She suggested ways for us to improve, questions to form and gave us some feedback. She also was very kind and listened to what we had to share and was a great mentor!
When the real exhibition day came we were more than ready. Everything was set and ready to go. We had everything nicely organised and ready.The first sessions where great! All the students enjoyed our workshop., But in the afternoon we had a session. We had the blame stuck to us even after our teachers came to watch it again (where we were better) . But Wednesday was better since all the classes had fun (and we presented well!)
The journey of our exhibition was extraordinary, amazing and great! We all did a really great job and put lots of effort. We helped each other and gave feedbacks. We also read what other people had to say and made improvements. We made a good team, and we all had an amazing time!
Hello, we are Kamal, Aoi and Anannya. Our passion is Dance But our focus is Hip Hop. Our goal was to keep the ISS community fit, active and be happy. We took an action by going to classes from G2-5 and the assembly and taught a short hip hop routine.
We showed creativity, and showed the skill. We decorated the room with creative things such as disco lights, balloons and other things.
We showed communication because if we didn’t communicate, we will be saying my turn, my turn, my turn. But since we didn’t, we showed that we communicated properly.
We showed an enthusiastic attitude when we were presenting because we were smiling, and we showed some moves to tell people that we’re very excited.
We showed respect in the process of exhibition, because we were respecting each other, and was showing kindness to each other. We didn’t argue when someone said there ideas.
Our workshop idea was to keep disco lights so the people who come in will feel excited, we also started with an iMovie. We all put the types of dance we do: we do Jazz, synchronized swimming and Kathak. We kept a theme of a Magical world of dance, we also had pictures of us dancing and when we went to classes. We also had the materials we use for the type of dance we did.
The Actual Exhibition Days
At the real workshop day/exhibition, we all were nervous at first because we didn’t really have much confidence in ourselves. But we thought if we want to succeed in this, or archive it we have to build our stamina. So we tried to stay calm and eventually we achieved it.

In the (Exhibition) process we had a couple of meetings a week to help us improve in a way. We thought of a dance which helped to explain and show what is hip hop. In the process of the exhibition we had more meetings then usual, we thought of some ways to make the exhibition better in a way. In some sessions we thought of ideas to make the exhibition stand out. The meetings helped in a way because it made the exhibition better, stand out.
Conclusion of workshop
The workshop was a very interesting experience because we all showed an interest in hip hop but also other types of dance. We also enjoyed creating and contributing ideas to make the workshop better in a way, we also enjoyed the real workshop day because we could share and inspire, influence people to dance.
Hello, there we are the sports group! In this blog post, we will discuss the Grade 5 exhibition which we and many other people are in. So in this post, you will learn all sorts of information about our exhibition and our 7-week journey.
The exhibition process was a really fun experience and a memorable one. The process was tough and we had to use our ATL's, the learner profile and our attitudes.
in the process, we came up with questions on our topic and we had to research the questions. We used a note taking format called a Cornell note where we had to list down the keywords and detailed notes and then make a summary of them. Once the Cornell notes were done we had to make at least one report for those notes. In that time period, we also thought about and took action in ISS. Finally, we came up with workshop ideas and created the workshop for the exhibition for many classes and people to come watch.
For the exhibition, we were put in groups by our interests. We (Eliott, Ayaka, & Ponnya) were all put into the sports group. Our passions are (Eliott) Surfing, Cycling, & Basketball (Ayaka) Tennis and (Ponnya) Basketball. Our goal was to promote fitness activities at ISS because we saw that some people weren't being active enough. We also saw people only eating and not burning the fat. So our action was to a fitness activity and for people do more sports. We did a little fitness activity at the assembly and in our workshop.
Our mentor is Mr. Inman who is our PE teacher and mentor who has the same experience and passions as us, he gave us ideas for what we can do like, workshop ideas, sports, what action to take, and advice that we would use. He was a great mentor to us and was really helpful to us and we couldn’t have made the exhibition process memorable without him.
Finally, the last step was our workshop, the one we’ve been most nervous for. For this step, we took countless days thinking and thinking about what we should do for our exhibition workshop. We first started off with a slide and a quiz for each slide with a final GoNoodle exercise. Later we changed it completely by having 3 stations, no slides, and an exercise workout at the end with and some discussions about action to take. We presented this workshop in front of various types of people and we thought that this was the hardest of all in the process.
“In the exhibition day, there was no better feeling than overcoming the exhibition. Lots of people loved our exhibition workshop and we were so happy to hear that. In the end, our exhibition was sub-par and we were so relieved in the end because all the hard work that we did paid off. It was a challenging process and we also got the chance to watch other groups workshops and get feedback which helped a lot in our exhibition. Our workshop and our research went well but our action didn’t go that well but in the end, we did end up doing well and that’s all that matters in the end. ” - Ponnya
“The exhibition was a hard and tiring. The hardest thing was presenting because it is hard to present when you are nervous. It was also the best thing because it helps me with overcoming my fear, stage fright. But I think that it was a good opportunity for us to learn about what we like to do.” - Eliott
“Before the workshop, I felt very nervous that I have to present to students, teachers and my parents and it was my first time that I have to present in front of people. But I think we did our best on the last presentation because we know that is the last presentation we were happy. I had a very good experience to have this exhibition workshop because if I were in Japan I would never have done this experience. “ - Ayaka
It all started with homework, our homework task were all about making us Tuning in and start to think about our passions. Next we had “Our top 3 Interest” where we have to write our passions.This was all for the teachers to know what passion's we all have so that they can group you. Then we received three pieces of paper with 4 circles to get you thinking of how your passion can influence others.
Finally one day we got our partners! We are the animal group Olga, Vanice & Vanessa. Our skills are communication & self management. We also used a lot of learner profiles and attitudes. Some of them are commitment, respect and caring.
We are passionate about Animal Rights. Our goal is to persuade others to stop buying animal testing products. For our action plan, we sent a email to companies that test on animals and told them to stop. We also made a blog that includes animal testing, labor and abuse selection for our research questions. We will advertise our blog using digital media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more. To convince people to stop, we will put some heart touching quotes. We also informed them about the companies that use animal testing and which don’t. We will be also signing “The Body Shop Petition” and linked it to our blog. And we got a action plan that tell us what to do and which stage we are in.
Our mentor is Ms. Leah. We got one meeting per week, we got five meetings all together. Ms. Leah helped us a lot, she helped us find some organizations that is cruelty free. We went to their website and checked if they are cruelty free or not cruelty free. We also made a set of cards given out when the audiences came to our workshop. It includes Home, Nail Polish and Beauty selection.For the children workshop we planned to make it experience in which our audiences get to feel what it’s like to be a animal in testing and a animal not in testing. At the beginning we would show them a shot presentation explaining our action plan, topic and teach them what animal testing is.
Then we would have a skit in which they are animals in a animal shelter giveaway for more backstory and to sort them into groups for. We would also give them out cards so they know what animal they are. Also have cages made of cardboard and tell the children that are the animals in testing to go inside the cages, and give treats to the animals that are pet animals. At the end of the play is the most important part we call “Circle Time”, that's when we all sit in a big circle and they reflect. We will ask them questions like “What experience did you like more?Why” and give them a short heart touching speech. at the end we will give out cards that will remind them of the companies that test and don’t test on animals.
For the adult presentation we planned to give them a short presentation explaining what animal testing is, our passion, action, questions, goals and the companies that test and don't test on animals. Then we would ask them to sit in groups at any tables to do a activity in which they had to use hints around the room (or their memory) to sort the makeup under the category “Test” & “Don’t Test”. And at the end we gave them out cards just like to the little kids.
Our workshop ran pretty smoothly but we had a hard time communicating with the children since they were screaming and making noise. Also, we had some problems with the scripts such as losing them and reading them wrongly.But at the end of the first day of the G5 Exhibition we got feedback which really helped us to improve. The second day was much easier and better because there were less times to present and we already had experience. We changed some things for the second day like giving the children fake treats (because Olga forgot to bring new ones) and making sure that we say every action to get their attention and not face our backs to the audience.
The exhibition was amazing we had amazing feedback that helped us improve. We felt Relieved that is was over, proud that we did well & happy. During the exhibition we had the ups and the downs. But in the end we were all happy with our workshop. We went to some of our peers workshops it was very interesting to see all the different passions and rooms! The rooms were very unique and different. We learned about Global, Warming, How to save marine life, Sports, Eco traveling, and A.I. All of the workshops was very special. We think that having workshops is a better way to present info than triboards. Because the audience won’t be distracted and go of, also because you get to do more with them and not just stand there in a small space, I mean you get a whole classroom. Overall the whole workshop experience was a lot of work but it is worth it.
